WoodStone Earth Construction was founded in 2004 with a single scraper pan and a commitment to doing the job right. Over two decades later, we’ve grown into Upstate New York’s trusted heavy civil contractor — but our values haven’t changed. Every project gets the same hands-on attention, whether it’s a small private project or a 100-acre commercial development.
How We Work

Most site projects involve three to five contractors and twice as many handoffs. Every handoff is a chance for miscommunication, schedule slippage, and cost overruns. WoodStone eliminates that risk by self-performing every phase under one project manager — earthwork, utilities, concrete, and finish grading.

President & Founder
Gary’s journey from humble beginnings on the family dairy farm to the helm of WoodStone Earth Construction Inc. is a testament to the power of hard work, perseverance, and passion. With no shortcuts to success, Gary embarked on his path at just 19, immersing himself in the world of site work construction. Each day became a lesson, each project a stepping stone towards mastery. For 14 years, Gary honed his craft, transitioning from a laborer to a seasoned manager overseeing multimillion-dollar ventures. Every challenge was an opportunity, every setback a chance to learn and grow. Armed with invaluable experience and a relentless drive for excellence, Gary dared to dream bigger. In 2004, WoodStone Earth Construction was born from Gary’s vision, determination, and unwavering belief in the power of possibility. From a simple start, he nurtured his brainchild into a powerhouse in the Rochester area, defying odds and surpassing expectations. Gary’s journey is a testament to adaptability and resilience. In an industry where change is constant, his ability to evolve alongside technology and meet the demands of modern-day site contracting is unparalleled. Controller
Lisa Williamson serves as Controller at Woodstone Earth Construction, where she brings over 25 years of experience in accounting, finance, and operational management. She specializes in financial reporting, budgeting, and process improvement, with a strong focus on supporting the unique financial demands of sitework and earthwork projects.
Prior to joining Woodstone Earth Construction, Lisa held key roles in both public accounting and private industry where she provided outsourced accounting and consulting services to a diverse client base. Her background in audit, tax, and human resources gives her a well-rounded perspective that strengthens internal controls and overall business operations.

Joe Francese brings a strong educational foundation and a wealth of industry expertise to his role at WoodStone Earth Construction Inc. A graduate of Alfred State College with a degree in Construction Management, Joe has been a dedicated member of the team for over eight years. Specializing in estimating and project management, Joe plays a key role in ensuring projects are meticulously planned, executed and delivered to the highest standards of quality and precision. His specializes in the concrete sector, where his expertise and attention to detail contribute to delivering high-quality results that meet client expectations and uphold WoodStone’s reputation for excellence. Project Manager & Estimator
Dale Mattice brings a diverse background of education and hands-on experience to his role as Project Manager and Estimator at WoodStone Earth Construction Inc. A graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in Economics and Business, Dale combines strategic insight with a practical understanding of the construction industry. Before joining WoodStone, Dale gained seven years of valuable construction experience, honing his skills in project coordination and client relations. At WoodStone, he manages projects from conception to completion, ensuring that timelines, budgets, and quality standards are consistently met. His estimating skill helps to accurately scope and plan projects, contributing to the company’s reputation for reliability and excellence. Dale’s disciplined approach, attention to detail, and commitment to teamwork make him an integral part of WoodStone’s success since February 2023.
